A Crosby woman has been arrested and charged with murder following a fatal shooting that left 21-year-old Maysie Murphy dead inside a residence in the 17800 block of Adlong Johnson Road near U.S. Highway 90, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say deputies were called to the home late last night after receiving reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they discovered Murphy inside the residence suffering from gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators later identified the suspect as 53-year-old Courtney Smith, who has since been taken into custody and formally charged with murder.

According to officials, Smith herself placed the initial 911 call, during which she claimed she had killed her granddaughter and her granddaughter’s boyfriend. However, investigators later confirmed that no additional victims were found at the scene, and Murphy was the only person located inside the residence. Authorities also stated that Murphy was not related to Smith, despite the statements made during the emergency call.

Law enforcement officials further revealed that Smith had made earlier calls in the day alleging she was “seeing demons.” These details are now part of an ongoing investigation as detectives work to better understand her mental and emotional state leading up to the incident.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Division and Crime Scene Investigators processed the scene and collected evidence as part of their initial response. Smith was later arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, where she remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.

Detectives confirmed that Smith and Murphy were known to each other, though the exact nature of their relationship and what led to the fatal encounter has not yet been determined. Investigators continue to review evidence, witness statements, and background information as they work to reconstruct the timeline of events.

As the case remains active, authorities are urging anyone with additional information to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Division or Crime Stoppers to assist with the investigation.
