According to Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs, deputies were dispatched shortly before 12:30 a.m. to a residence on Sturgeon Lane, located south of Poplar Bluff, after reports came in of a male subject who had been shot. When deputies arrived at the scene, they located a man suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite immediate emergency response efforts, Butler County Coroner Jim Akers later confirmed that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The man has been identified as 37-year-old Earnest Luellen. His body was taken into the custody of the coroner’s office, and an autopsy is scheduled to be conducted later this week as part of the ongoing investigation.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that multiple individuals believed to be connected to the incident have since been located and detained. However, authorities have not announced any formal charges at this stage, and investigators say the case remains active and ongoing as they work to establish a clear timeline of events.
