Authorities in Evanston and Skokie have announced that a second suspect has been charged in connection with the Howard Street shooting investigation stemming from an incident earlier this year that left one person injured. The case has continued to draw attention in both communities as investigators work to identify everyone involved and piece together the events surrounding the shooting.
According to the Evanston Police Department, detectives recently arrested 19-year-old Cajmere T. Lemond in connection with the April 21 incident near Howard Street and Custer Avenue.
Police said officers initially responded around 6:08 p.m. to reports of gunfire in the 700 block of Howard Street. During the investigation, authorities located evidence of gunfire inside a nearby business. A victim suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds was later found near Main Street and Elmwood Avenue and transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Detectives reportedly reviewed surveillance footage, collected physical evidence, and interviewed witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities stated that on May 14, officers located Lemond near the 500 block of Custer Avenue in Evanston. Police allege he attempted to flee on foot before being apprehended without further incident.
Investigators said two loaded firearms were recovered from a backpack in his possession, including a Taurus G2C 9mm handgun and an AA Arms P-9 handgun, both reportedly fitted with extended magazines. Officials also stated that one of the firearms had previously been reported stolen from Ohio.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved multiple felony charges related to the case, including aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon and mob action. Lemond later appeared at the Skokie Courthouse, where a judge ordered him detained pending trial.
Authorities emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing. Law enforcement officials continue encouraging anyone with additional information related to the Howard Street shooting to contact investigators as they pursue further leads in the case.
